Lake Jackson Shoreline Restoration Project

The Highlands SWCD has proudly coordinated the Lake Jackson Shoreline Restoration project. This restoration project, adjacent to Highway 27, included the removal of exotic and nuisance vegetation and replanting with desirable native species with minimal herbicide treatment. The majority of the funding was provided by the Tourist Development Council, via the county tourism tax. Other sources of funding include the Recreation and Parks Advisory Council, the Florida Lake Management Society, the City of Sebring, and the Highlands SWCD.

The selected contractor, Total Site Solutions, LLC, began work in September 2007.

The Highlands SWCD hopes this project will increase lake user activity along the shoreline of the lake as well as improving native habitat for birds, mammals and fish.  If you would like more information on the Lake Jackson Shoreline Restoration Project, call the Highlands SWCD at 863-402-6545.
