Lake Adelaide
Lake Adelaide is a mucky, relatively shallow 'transition' type lake located in northern Highlands County. Lakewatch data indicate that there has been relatively little change in water quality in this lake in the past 6 years. Water quality in Lake Adelaide is quite good for a lake of this type and nutrient and algae concentrations show natural seasonal fluctuations. Total phosphorus values for this lake range from 7 to 27 parts per billion (ppb) and average only 13 ppb, a relatively low value for this lake. Nitrogen levels are also quite low for a lake of this type, ranging from 220 to 790 ppb and averaging only 500 ppb. As a result of low nutrient levels, algae levels, as measured by chlorophyll concentration, are also quite low. Chlorophyll ranges from 3 to 30 ppb and averages 8 ppb in this lake, indicating that there are generally no significant algae 'blooms' that cause detriment to the health of the lake, though a bloom did occur during 2003. Water clarity, as measured by the depth to which a standardized 'secchi' disc can be seen when lowered into the water, also indicate that the water is quite clear for a lake of this type. Secchi depths range from 3 to 11 feet and average 7 feet, which is quite clear for a lake of this type. Click here to view water quality graphs by year.
The boat ramp on Lake Adelaide is at the south end of the lake where Touchton Road and Westshore drive intersect.
