Lake Crews
Lake Crews is a small, relatively shallow, mucky-bottomed 'transition' type lake located to the northwest of Lake June. Based on Lakewatch data, water quality in Lake Crews is good for a lake of this type. Phosphorus levels in Lake Crews range from 8 to 28 ppb (parts per billion) and average only 17 ppb. Nitrogen levels are also low, ranging from 310 to 740 ppb and averaging 470 ppb. Algae levels, as measured by the chlorophyll concentration in the water, are low as a result of the low low nutrient levels. Chlorophyll ranges from 3 to 15 ppb and averages only 7 ppb. Water clarity, as measured by the depth to which a standardized 'secchi' disc can be seen when lowered into the water, is good for a transition type lake, ranging from 2 to 6 feet and averaging 3.6 feet. Water quality in Lake Crews appears to fluctuate naturally over time and no long term changes in water quality can be observed since sampling began in 1996.
