Eagle Pond

Eagle Pond is a 2 acre, mucky 'transition' type body of water adopted by a school for learning purposes.  Based on Lakewatch data, nutrient levels, and therefore algae levels, range from very low to very high in this pond, causing drastic changes in water clarity.  Phosphorus levels range from 3 to 127 ppb (parts per billion) and average 23 ppb.  Nitrogen levels range from 340 to 2630 (very high) ppb, averaging 1064 ppb.  Algae populations, as measured by the concentration of chlorophyll in the water, varied widely as well.  Chlorophyll levels ranged from 3 to 158 ppb and averaged 23 ppb.  Water clarity, as measured by the depth to which a standardized 'secchi' disc can be seen when lowered into the water, also varied widely.  Secchi depths ranged from 0.1 to 8.3 feet and averaged 3.5 feet.  Overall, only phosphorus levels appear to have increased in the long term (since 1995 when sampling began).  Click here to view water quality data by year.
