Lake LaChard (Rachard)
Lake LaChard is a small, relatively deep (46 feet), sandy-bottomed 'ridge' type lake located between Lake June and US 27 near the Town of Lake Placid. Only one Lakewatch water quality sample has been taken for this lake, in May of 1996, and therefore very little is known about this lake. The one sampling event indicates that Lake LaChard has somewhat high levels of phosphorus for a ridge lake, ranging from 21 to 25 ppb (parts per billion). Nitrogen levels are quite low, ranging from 450 to 510 ppb. Algae populations affect water clarity and are measured by the chlorophyll concentration in the water. Chlorophyll levels were relatively low as a result of the low nutrient levels, ranging from 11 to 13 ppb. Secchi depths were fair, ranging from 3.5 to 4.5 feet. These values all indicate that water quality is not quite as good as in neighboring Lake June, possibly because this is a small lake located near a major highway and it may be impacted by stormwater runoff. Additional information is needed about this lake - please contact 1-800-LAKEWATCH if you would like to volunteer to take monthly water samples on this lake (there is no public access).
