Little Lake Grassy

Little Lake Grassy is a small, clear, sandy-bottomed 'ridge' type lake located to the west of US 27 south of the Town of Lake Placid.  Little Grassy is sometime connected to its neighbor, Lake Grassy, by a channel that runs under US 27.  There is very little Lakewatch water quality data for this lake, but the available data indicate that water quality in Little Lake Grassy is very good.  Phosphorus levels ranged from 6 to 9 ppb (parts per billion), and nitrogen levels ranged from 350 to 890 ppb.  Algae populations, which are measured by the concentration of chlorophyll in the water, are very low as a result of the low nutrient levels.  Chlorophyll ranged from 2 to 4 ppb.  Water clarity, as measured by the depth to which a standardized 'secchi' disc can be seen when lowered into the water, is very good as a result of low algae levels.  Secchi depths range from 11 to 15 feet, making Little Lake Grassy among the clearest lakes in the county.
