Lake Lotela
Lake Lotela is a deep, sandy-bottomed, clear 'ridge' type lake located just south of the City of Avon Park. Based on Lakewatch data, water quality in Lake Lotela is quite good. Phosphorus levels are low to moderate, ranging from 7 to 22 ppb (parts per billion) and averaging 13 ppb. Nitrogen levels are also low, ranging from 220 to 950 and averaging only 498 ppb. Algae populations, as estimated by the concentration of chlorophyll in the water, are quite low as a result of low nutrient levels, Chlorophyll values range from 1 to 16 ppb and average only 5 ppb. The relative lack of algae increases water clarity, which is measured as the depth to which a standardized 'secchi' disc can be seen when lowered into the water. Secchi depths range from 4 to 13 feet and average 8 feet, making Lake Lotela a relatively clear lake. No long term changes in water quality can be discerned based on available data. There are two boat ramps on lake Lotela. The ramp at the south end of the lake is located off of Lake Lotela Drive. Take Memorial Drive (Hwy 17a) north from Sebring or south from Avon Park to get to Lake Lotela Drive. The other ramp is located off of Memorial Drive at the end or 3rd Street on the northwest side of the lake.
