Lake Mirror
Lake Mirror is a fairly deep (41 feet), sandy-bottomed, clear 'ridge' type lake located to the west of US 27 just north of Lake Placid. Lake Mirror water only sampled once in 1996 for the Lakewatch program, so very little can be said about water quality in this lake. Based on the available Lakewatch data, Lake Mirror appeared to have very good water quality. Phosphorus was only 7 ppb (parts per billion) for all samples and nitrogen ranged from 380 to 410 ppb. These extremely low nutrient levels resulted in very low algae populations, which are estimated based on the chlorophyll concentration in the water. All Chlorophyll samples measured 2 ppb, which is very low. Low algae levels increase water clarity, which is measured as the depth to which a standardized 'secchi' disc can be seen when lowered into the water. Secchi depths were 18 and 19.5 feet, making Lake Mirror among the clearest lakes in the county.
