The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulates pesticides at the federal level, and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services regulates pesticides and issues pesticide applicator licenses at the state level.
There are two basic types of pesticides - general use and restricted use. General use pesticides are available the the general public at most retail stores. Restricted Use Pesticides can only be purchased and used by individuals with a Pesticide Applicator's License.
A pesticide is a chemical that kills any type of pest. There are many types of pesticides, including herbicides (kill plants), rodenticides, fungicides, nematicides (kill microscopic worms), etc.
