The Division of Forestry within the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services regulates forest fires and controlled burns.  You can contact them at 863-462-5163, or visit the Florida Forest Protection web page.  Controlled burning and 'repscribed fires' are a common and often necessary form of land management.  Florida's ecosystems were meant to burn periodically, primarily as a result of lightening strikes.  Many of our plant and tree species require fire to reproduce, and preventing all fires will eventually result in loss of some species.  Controlled burns are conducted to remove flammable materials under 'controlled' circumstances.  This procedure can prevent wildfires by keeping vegetation (alive and dead) at the levels nature intended.
