Southwest Gulf Coast Regional Envirothon

The Envirothon is an academic challenge for high school students that educates, creates partnerships, and promotes teamwork as students learn about the interdependencies of our environment. This challenge began as an "Environmental Olympics” competition in Pennsylvania in 1979 and has been adopted in over 53 states and provinces since then. The Florida Envirothon, founded in 1992, has captured the support of educators, public agencies and corporations. This competitive program is the only "hands-on" educational program that involves team problem-solving in five natural resource areas: aquatics, soils, wildlife, forestry, and a current environmental issue. The Southwest Gulfcoast Envirothon is held at Caloosahatchee Regional Park in Alva.

The winner of the Southwest Gulfcoast Envirothon competes at the State level. The Florida Envirothon is held in a different location each year.  The website for the Florida Environthon is: flenvirothon.com.

The winning team

represents the state of Florida at the Canon  International Envirothon, which is held in a different state or Canadian province each year.
