Lauren Ahrens
Lauren, a native of Avon Park, Florida, developed a passion for agriculture while attending Avon Park Middle and High Schools. As an active member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) at both schools, Lauren showed livestock in the Highlands County Fair, competed in the Ornamental Horticulture Demonstration Event and earned placings at State level competitions multiple times. In addition to the FFA events she became active as a member of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club, competing in their Agribusiness Events.
While in her Junior and Senior years at Avon Park High, Lauren attended South Florida State College obtaining her Associate Degree in Business Administration simultaneously with her High School Diploma. Upon graduation she relocated to Ft. Myers and enrolled as a Junior at Florida Gulf Coast University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management with a minor in Agriculture. While in Ft. Myers Lauren had the opportunity to complete an internship at the University of Florida/IFAS Range Cattle Research and Education Center in the Soil and Water department which prepared her for her current position with HSWCD. As a BMP Technician she enjoys assisting agriculture producers implement Best Management Practices in Highlands and surrounding counties. In her spare time, Lauren enjoys spending time with her family and being in the outdoors.
